The Loudoun Symphony Youth Orchestra provides performing opportunities for students age 10-18 who have at least three years of experience with a private teacher or in school music programs. Participation is by audition and an annual $300 tuition fee is required. Some scholarships are available on a need basis.

The audition requirements are a short solo, scales up to three flats and three sharps, and sight-reading. Students must provide their own instruments. Click here for detailed audition information.

The Youth Orchestra rehearses weekly during the school year and presents two full concert programs, one in the Fall and one in the Spring. Over the years the level of musicianship and the number of members have steadily increased. Last year approximately 100 students auditioned of whom 55 were accepted.

For the past three seasons, Mark Allen McCoy, Music Director and Conductor of the Loudoun Symphony, has led the Youth Orchestra. Mr. McCoy is in his eleventh season as Music Director and Conductor of the Loudoun Symphony Orchestra, the parent organization of the Loudoun Symphony Youth Orchestra. He has also been Director of Orchestras at Towson University in Maryland and served as cover conductor for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra during their 1997-1998 and 1998-1999 seasons. He was Music Director of the Chesapeake Youth Symphony Orchestras from 1995 to 1998, and has worked with many other youth orchestras including the Peabody Youth Sinfonia Orchestra, the Central Illinois Youth Symphony, the Kansas City Youth Symphony, and the Greater Baltimore Youth Symphony.
