LSYO 2021-2022 AUDITIONS

LSYO auditions for open seats for the 2021-2022 season will take place on August 28th. Registration opens on July 24th.

Please visit the respective pages for each ensemble to understand level and commitment prior to signing up for auditions.  Musicians need only to audition for one ensemble to be considered for all lower ensembles.

String Orchestra

Please prepare the following:

  1. Scales: Any 2 one-octave scales. Memorized. Quarter note = 80 BPM (slur two in a bow).

  2. Solo: A solo that best demonstrates technical and expressive performance ability.  Minimum requirement: mid-book Suzuki Volume 2.

Symphonic Orchestra

Please prepare the following:

  1. Scales: Any one 2-octave major scale. Memorized. Quarter note = 100 BPM. (Strings -  slur two in a bow.)

  2. Solo: A solo that best demonstrates technical and expressive performance ability. (Percussion: must perform a snare etude and a keyboard instrument solo.)

  3. Excerpt: Excerpt pertaining to your specific instrument below. *Percussion performs 2 excerpts.

Philharmonic Orchestra

 

Please prepare the following:

  1. Scales: Any one 3-octave scale (2-octave for winds, brass, and percussion). Memorized. Quarter note = 100 BPM. (Strings - Slur two in a bow.)

  2. Solo: A solo that best demonstrates technical and expressive performance ability. (Percussion must perform a snare drum solo and a keyboard percussion solo.) 

  3. Excerpts: 2 excerpts pertaining to your specific instrument below. Transpositions and clef proficiencies are required where applicable. Woodwinds, please note on your audition form if you have access to auxiliary instruments (i.e Piccolo, English Horn, Clarinet in A, etc.).
